St Mary’s Barnes is making an early start to the festive season. It will be hosting its annual Christmas Fair on Saturday 22 November, offering gift shopping opportunities, food, and entertainment in one of southwest London’s most historic parish churches.

From 10am to 3pm, visitors to the fair can browse a wide selection of stalls featuring Christmas cards, handmade gifts, books, bric-a-brac, and seasonal treats. The church café will serve hot food, homemade cakes, and refreshments, accompanied by live music and plenty of festive decorations. A tombola and raffle with prizes donated by local businesses will add to the community spirit, with all proceeds supporting St Mary’s and local charities.

The event takes place at St Mary’s Church, Church Road, Barnes SW13 9HL, a Grade II* listed building with a rich history dating back to the 12th century. Originally built around the time of the Domesday Book, the church has undergone numerous changes over the centuries. A major fire in 1978 led to a sensitive reconstruction that retained key architectural features, including the south wall, east gable, vestry, northwest turret, and tower. The church was rehallowed in 1984 and stands today as a blend of historic and modern design, set within a walled garden and conservation area near Barnes Green.

St Mary’s continues to serve as a vibrant community hub, hosting concerts, lectures, and outreach events throughout the year. The Christmas Fair is one of its most popular seasonal gatherings, drawing residents and visitors alike for a day of celebration and giving.

Admission is free, and further details are available at www.stmarybarnes.org.
