Music, reflection, and community celebration this Sunday

All Saints’ Church will celebrate its Patronal Festival on Sunday 2 November with a day of worship, music, and family-friendly activities, marking the Feast of All Saints in the Christian calendar. The event centres around the 10:30am Parish Eucharist, followed by refreshments and children’s games, and concludes with a reflective Choral Evensong at 6pm.

A Patronal Festival is the annual celebration of a church’s patron saint—the figure or figures for whom the church is named. While many churches are dedicated to a single saint such as St Mary or St Simon, All Saints’ Church honours all saints collectively. Its Patronal Festival therefore coincides with All Saints’ Day, traditionally observed on 1 November and celebrated on the nearest Sunday.

This year’s service will be “All Together,” with children remaining in church throughout. The liturgy will begin with an entrance dance to “O When the Saints,” led by Eve, and feature a performance of Bob Chilcott’s Little Jazz Mass by the adult choir and Treblemakers, accompanied by trumpet, double bass, and piano. The service will explore the meaning of sainthood and how individuals might reflect on their own calling.

Later in the day, the church’s choristers will join the upper voices of the choir for Choral Evensong, offering a quieter moment of reflection. Refreshments will be served after both services, and children can enjoy games organised by Jackie and Millie.

The Patronal Festival is a longstanding tradition in many churches, offering an opportunity to celebrate the spiritual heritage of the parish and bring the community together. All Saints’ Church invites all members of the congregation and wider community to take part in the day’s events.

All Saint’s Church is by Putney Common (SW15 1HL).
