Prolific Putney Burglar Admits Charges

A man arrested earlier this spring following a targeted police operation in Putney has now pleaded guilty to fourteen burglary-related offences and remains in custody awaiting sentencing. Officers are now working to return stolen property to residents affected by the crime spree.
The arrest, first reported in May, followed a three-day intelligence-led operation directed by Acting Police Sergeant Gary Berry and carried out by Safer Neighbourhood Team officers in Thamesfield and East Putney. The operation was launched after a rise in burglaries across local wards and neighbouring areas in late April and early May.
Using crime data to identify hotspot locations and offending times, Sergeant Berry coordinated both high-visibility and plain-clothed patrols. On the third day, officers located and arrested the suspect within one of the wards. They found him carrying a concealed crowbar, a knife and stolen property linked to a burglary the previous week.
He was arrested on suspicion of twelve burglary offences and further charged with going equipped to steal and possession of an offensive weapon, bringing the total to fourteen offences.
The suspect has now pleaded guilty to all charges at his first court appearance and remains in custody pending sentencing later this year. Police say the swift guilty plea is a positive outcome for residents and reflects the strength of the evidence gathered during the operation.
Officers are now focusing on returning stolen items to their rightful owners. Sergeant Berry said the team is working closely with victims to identify recovered property and ensure it is returned as soon as possible. He thanked residents for their continued support and vigilance, noting that community awareness and timely reporting played a crucial role in helping officers identify patterns and respond quickly.
The arrest and conviction mark a significant success for local policing teams, who continue to prioritise burglary prevention and community reassurance across Putney and neighbouring wards.
