A man believed to be responsible for a series of burglaries across Putney has been arrested following a coordinated operation by local officers, detectives and neighbourhood policing teams.

The arrest comes after what police describe as “extensive investigations” by CID, supported by proactive intelligence-gathering and targeted patrols in the affected wards. When officers detained the suspect, he was found carrying a crowbar and a push-dagger style knife.

The man has now been charged with 13 burglaries and was also wanted on a recall to prison.

Inspector Paul James, from the Wandsworth Neighbourhood Policing Team, said the arrest followed concerns raised by residents through the Met’s priority survey, where burglary consistently appears as a top issue. He added that officers would continue to pursue offenders operating in the area, but urged residents to take simple steps to protect their homes.

Police are advising households to double-lock doors when leaving, secure outward-opening windows with key locks, and ensure valuables are kept out of sight. Residents are also encouraged to move bins or garden furniture away from windows, use sash stops on sash windows, shut curtains in the evening, set alarms, lock sheds and garages, and keep keys and handbags away from letterboxes or cat flaps. Marking or registering valuables can also help officers trace stolen property.

The Met is currently developing its New Met for London: Phase 2 strategy, which will guide policing priorities over the next three years. Officers are encouraging residents to continue using the priority survey so local teams can focus on the issues that matter most to them.

Anyone with information about burglary or suspicious activity is urged to report it via met.police.uk, the online web-chat service, or by calling 101. In an emergency, always dial 999.

Inspector James said the team welcomed feedback on the usefulness of police updates and encouraged residents to update their communication preferences so they continue receiving information relevant to their area.
