Putney Scout Hut Vaccinations Resume After Supply Issues

Concerns raised after centre stopped issuing jabs for four days

Reassurances have been given that the temporary suspension of the vaccination programme at the Putney Scout Hut is not an indication of permanent supply problems.

The centre was closed from Saturday (16 January) and it is understood that it did not fully reopen until this Thursday (21 January).

It was reported that vaccination centres across south west London were also slowing down or stopping their programmes of distribution.

Visitors to the Putney centre on Saturday were told that the last of the supplies had been used up and some SW15 residents were being referred to St. George’s Hospital in Tooting or even further afield.

Leonie Cooper, London Assembly Member for Merton and Wandsworth said, “It’s very disappointing. I think it reduces confidence in what’s happening. Certainly there has already been some concern with some people very worried about being vaccinated at all.”

The local centre is operated by the West Wandsworth and Wandsworth Prime PCNs which cover most of Putney and Roehampton

Local GPs are asking patients not to call about vaccines as they are already having trouble dealing with enquiries.

Those attending the Putney centre since vaccinations resumed say that they are now giving out the Oxford vaccine having previously been distributing the Pfizer vaccine.

Wandsworth borough councillor leader, Ravi Govindia said, “Following press reports suggesting there have been shortages of the vaccine in Wandsworth, I have sought assurances from the NHS to get a picture of what is happening across the borough.

“They have confirmed that there are currently no delivery issues in south west London or any problems of vaccine supply in Wandsworth.

“I’m told the vaccination programme has got off to a strong start and regarding the Scout Hut in Putney initial supplies were quickly and efficiently administered. Additional vaccines for that venue have now been secured and the Scout Hut will be vaccinating up to 400 people today.”
