Unexplained Spike in Roehampton Covid-19 Infections

Part of the area has one of the highest rate of cases in London

Map based on ONS figures show rates of infection. Darker colour equals higher rate

Figures released by the Office of National Statistics are showing that parts of Roehampton are seeing some the highest rates of Covid-19 infection in London at the moment. The current number of cases is the third highest concentration of an area within the M25.

The area designated as Roehampton North West has seen an 81% increase in infections in the week to 12 November bringing the total number of cases in that period to 38. The equates to a weekly infection rate per 100,000 population of 533.6 nearly three times the average for the borough.

Nearby areas have relatively low rates of infection so the cluster seems to be concentrated in one area. The area designated as Roehampton South & Putney Vale has had just 10 cases over the week and an infection rate of 120.0 per 100,000. For Roehampton North East the rate is 150.5.

Data for the week ending 13 November shows that Wandsworth Borough has an infection rate of 184 per 100,000 close to the London average.

We have asked Wandsworth Council for an explanation of the high rate of infection in this area of Roehampton but none has been forthcoming.
