Climate groups from across South West London will come together later this month for a special screening of The People’s Emergency Briefing, a 45-minute film introduced by naturalist and broadcaster Chris Packham.

The event takes place on Monday 28 April, from 7pm to 8.30pm, at St Mary’s Church, Lancaster Hall, Putney High Street (SW15 1SN), and is hosted by XR Wandsworth, Greener Jobs Alliance, Greenpeace South West London, and other local environmental organisations. Local councillors and the constituency MP have been invited to attend.

The film condenses key sections of the National Emergency Briefing, a three-hour presentation first shown to Members of Parliament, peers and other stakeholders. According to organisers, the original briefing was created by a coalition of scientists, policy specialists and campaign groups to summarise current research on climate-related risks, including extreme weather impacts, biodiversity loss and economic vulnerability. The People’s Emergency Briefing is designed to make that material accessible to the wider public, combining expert testimony, data visualisations and short explanatory segments.

Following the screening, attendees will be invited to take part in an open discussion about the issues raised in the film and the practical steps communities can take at a local level. The organisers say the aim is to create space for residents to share ideas, ask questions and explore ways to support climate-resilience initiatives in Wandsworth and neighbouring boroughs.

The event is free to attend, and further details are available on the organisers’ website.

St Mary’s Church is at Putney High Street (SW15 1SN).

This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.
