Putney Parent Launches New Fundraising Venture
Nanook & Badger helps PTAs bring in money through book sales

A Putney resident and former Brandlehow Primary School parent has launched a new company designed to help school PTAs raise money with minimal administration, beginning with a pilot campaign at her old school after half term. Kate Reid has created the initiative with a group of friends, drawing on her own experience of school fundraising and the challenges PTAs face in generating reliable income.
The new venture, Nanook & Badger, produces personalised children’s books that aim to boost reading engagement and wellbeing. The stories are written by Kate and hand‑illustrated by her childhood friend Tom Chitty, now a successful cartoonist for The New Yorker. The pair have known each other since they were nine, and the project grew from a shared desire to create something meaningful for families while supporting local schools.
Under the scheme, schools receive ten per cent of the revenue from every book sold using their unique fundraising code, offering what Kate describes as a simple, low‑admin way for PTAs to bring in extra funds. Brandlehow Primary will be the first to launch the offer to parents, with the campaign timed to coincide with the school’s football‑themed Summer Fair and the excitement of the World Cup. Another local school, Hillbrook, has already signed up to take part.
Kate said the Brandlehow campaign will act as a test to see how much can be raised and hopes that other schools across Wandsworth and neighbouring boroughs will consider joining. She has been sharing details of the project with PTA volunteers and parents involved in fundraising, encouraging them to explore the books and the model on the company’s website.

The Brandlehow PTA is expected to announce the offer to parents shortly, with hopes that the partnership will provide a welcome boost to school funds during a busy summer term.
