Neighbours Oppose Contemporary Home Plan in Bective Road

Plans to build a "contemporary" one-bedroom home in a Putney street of Victorian and early Edwardian properties is being opposed by neighbours.
London Property Investments Ltd want to build a semi-detached property in Bective Road, mainly on land used for car parking by a local tyre company.
According to the application submitted to Wandsworth Council, they would also use part of the garden now used by the neighbouring flat to create an amenity space for the new development.
But neighbours on the other side of the planned development have written to the council to object to the scheme, which will be built by September if it gets the go-ahead.
Neighbour Elaine Smith said, "I am writing to very strongly object to the above application. A two-storey house will severely impact on my property, due to restriction of light, loss of privacy with multiple windows overlooking my property, major disruption during the build, compromised parking which is already difficult and a possible effect on the value of my property and others surrounding.
"I appreciate that accommodation is at a premium, but l strongly feel that this build is totally inappropriate for this site and will be extremely detrimental to the current residents."
The planned scheme will feature a glass box skylight, front cladding and a green roof, which the applicant says will keep the building cool and sustainable. It will have an upstairs double bedroom, with a downstairs living room /kitchen area.
In a Design and Access Statement submitted to the council the applicants state: "The main material used to build the property will be bricks and fire resistant wood cladding to highlight key features of the property and give it a contemporary character and harmonise the use of vertical and horizontal features.
"The scale and appearance of the development provides a high quality, sustainable design and layout, which contributes positively to the local character."
They have submitted four design concepts to the council, with their favoured choice featuring the use of brown brick. They say this design "displays the existing character of the surrounding area and blends it with the contemporary design."
Wandsworth Council has consulted with 30 neighbours on the scheme, which you can find on the council's planning explorer by searching for application 2023/4028. It is inviting comments until 8 January.
