Changes would impact on light and entrance says objector

Plans to build a series of extensions to a house overlooking Putney Heath are being opposed by a neighbour, who says it will impact on her light and the entrance to her property.

Oliver Taylor has applied to Wandsworth Council for permission to build two side extensions, a rear extension, a roof dormer, a two-bike cycle store and a garden terrace at his property in Treville Street.

The plans for two-storey Spencer Cottage would add a bedroom and bathroom to the property, which is situated in the Roehampton Archaeological Priority Area. One of the extensions would have a parapet roof and would include a pantry, utility room and boot room.

But neighbour Joanne Glynne, who lives in neighbouring Rose Cottage, has formally objected to the scheme. She has told the council, " Storage/cycle parking with the prospective footpath will change the entrance to my property substantially. It will impact the current light I have always had in the entrance.

"The driveway barely takes a car and building a store will make that less possible. I do not see why it is necessary. It will be imposing.

"I need to object to the footpath (that will run parallel with the footpath for Rose Cottage). I do not think it is necessary and it will cause the residents of Rose Cottage issues in future."

But planner Louise Brewer, on behalf of SM Planning and the applicant, responded "The proposed extensions by virtue of their scale, massing and design are of high quality and which relate positively to the host property.

"They are subservient in nature and will use appropriate materials to match the existing property as well as the surrounding conservation area. The proposed extensions will preserve the character and appearance of the host property and conservation area."

The scheme, which also includes a new chimney flue, would increase the roof height by 29cms (just over 11 inches).

Wandsworth Council is seeking comments on the scheme, using reference number 2023/3864, until 14 December. If the plans get the go-ahead, the work is due for completion in May 2024.
