Say plan to build flats at site will led to loss of light and privacy
Putney Animal Hospital closed in 2020
A number of local residents living near to the site of the Putney Animal Hospital are expressing concerns about a plan to develop flats.
The Cherwell Group have submitted an application to Wandsworth Council (ref 2022/1525) for a determination as to whether a residential building can be placed at the site under permitted development rules.
The hospital is situated to the north of Clarendon Drive, Putney in a primarily residential area. To the north is Hotham Primary School and there is an NHS healthcare centre to the east with Our Lady of Victories Primary School to the south of Clarendon Drive.
The building was vacated in August 2020 when it closed despite a campaign to keep it open.
Now it is proposed to build 7 three bedroom flats on the site in a building four storeys high.
The site is in the Landford Road Conservation area although the existing building is not subject to any additional planning constraints.
One resident contacted us to say, “Previous plans were four just 5 flats and I think this latest one is testing the water because if they establish the principle that it can be built without a full planning application then they may seek to squeeze more in.”
Other people living nearby have already submitted comments on the council’s planning portal saying that the site is inappropriate for the proposed development and will lead to a loss of light and privacy.
One said, “The site is not big enough to cram in large number of flats. In a conservation area on a small site, more flats will put pressure on drainage, parking, increased noise for the neighbouring residents.”
You can find out more details about the application and submit comments on the Wandsworth Council web site.
