Fleur Anderson MP will host a public meeting next week for residents concerned about Heathrow’s long‑running expansion plans, as the Government begins consulting on a new national policy framework that could pave the way for a third runway.

The meeting takes place on Monday 13 July from 7pm to 8.30pm at Regenerate‑RISE, 22 Felsham Road, and is open to all. Free tickets can be booked via putneyhenps.eventbrite.co.uk.

The Government has launched a consultation on the draft Heathrow Expansion National Policy Statement (HENPS), a document that would set the planning rules against which any future application for a new northwest runway would be judged. While the consultation does not grant permission for expansion, the final HENPS would become the decisive national framework shaping how a future planning application is assessed. Anderson says this makes early public engagement essential.

For residents along the river, aircraft noise is already a daily part of life, with flights passing overhead from early morning until late evening. Many fear that a third runway would increase both the number and concentration of flights over south‑west London, adding to existing concerns about air pollution, climate emissions and the long‑term impact on quality of life.

Ms Anderson, who has consistently campaigned against Heathrow expansion, says the meeting will help residents understand what the consultation means, what is being proposed, and how to respond effectively. She will be joined by Stephen Luxford, chair of the Putney Society’s Transport Committee, and Paul Beckford, Policy Director of the No Third Runway campaign.

“This consultation really matters because it is the first major step towards a potential third runway at Heathrow,” Anderson said. “People in Putney and along the river already live with plane after plane overhead, often from early in the morning until late at night. Aircraft noise affects people’s quality of life. If we’re to oppose the Heathrow expansion, we must show the huge opposition to it from residents of Putney, Southfields, Roehampton and Wandsworth Town.”

The Government has said any expansion proposal must meet four tests covering economic growth, climate, air quality and noise. Anderson wants residents to scrutinise whether these tests are strong enough to protect communities under the flight paths.

The consultation is open until 1 September 2026 and can be completed online or by emailing henpsconsultation@dft.gov.uk.
