An event at which Putney’s MP Fleur Anderson and former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn were due to speak has been called off.

The public meeting had been organised jointly by the Wandsworth and Twickenham & Richmond branches of the United Nations Association (UNA).

It was due to take place at The Community Church (opposite Sainsburys) on Werter Road (SW15 2LL) on 13 September at 7.30pm.

However, the association decided to cancel due to the ongoing period of national mourning. Fleur Anderson says she has cancelled all her meetings during this period.

Ms Anderson was the only Labour MP to win a seat from the Conservatives at the last election when Mr Corbyn was the party leader.

The Wandsworth branch of the UNA has been in existence for more than 60 years. It was started just after World War II and its function remains to inform people about the UN, to support its work, to challenge that work when necessary and to lobby the UK Government.

It holds three public meetings a year which it promises will be challenging, interesting and lively. The Committee chooses topical subjects of concern to the UN and relating to world affairs, booking experts in relative fields. Meetings include an annual marking of International Women's Day.

The season of activities concludes with an AGM which is followed by a social event. It also holds a summer fundraising party hosted by a Committee member to which non-members can be invited.
