Fleur Anderson MP has promised to check that care homes in her constituency are adhering to government guidance not to prevent family visits.

She made the pledge to the organisers of a Downing Street protest by Rights for Residents which was presenting a petition signed by more than a quarter of a million people calling for more action to prevent the current restrictions, which despite guidance from the government, continue to prevent visits from families of those in some care homes.

The protest was attended by Putney resident Janis Humberston who said, “Regrettably this is yet another example where the government can tick a box to say that they are protecting older people, while turning the other way when the rules are not observed. “

Her placard referred to Gosport in which 456 people in an NHS Hospital were found to have been unlawfully killed but whose deaths attracted little attention because the victims were old.
