Another Betting Arcade Planned for Putney High Street

Putney High Street is full of fast food shops, vape shops and nail bars. I have lived in Putney for nearly 10 years and have seen the Putney High Street deteriorate to the seedy mess it is today. We don't need another gambling establishment on the high street and I urge people to have their say by commenting on planning application 2024/2402 on Wandsworth Council's planning explorer.

Accident

Outside R.Dyas in the High Street, a lorry in front of a bus with a long load on top.  The bus driver obviously didn't see it, some sort of long metal ladder, it went right into the top window at the front of the bus. About lunch time today.

Roman legionary long shield: scutum (British Museum exhibition) https://flic.kr/p/2pViTG7Legionary defence
Despite the countless made, this is the only complete surviving Roman legionary long shield (scutum). It is from Rome's Syrian frontier, where the dry climate preserved the wood and its remarkable painted leather surface, but its semi-cylindrical shape is now more curled. On a military red background are Roman victory and regimental motifs including an eagle with a laurel wreath, winged Victories and a lion. Soldiers painted their shields for personal and unit recognition in a variety of designs. The centre hole is missing its metal boss.

Putin's pussy?

I see that Starmer has brought in a Siberian kitten to Downing Street. He reneged on his promise to his children to get a good British choice, a German Shepherd dog, instead choosing, quite blatantly, an animal "Originating from Russia, Siberian cats have long and fluffy coats to protect from the cold." And doubtless snow on their paws.Siberia - known for centuries as a a place of prison camps and exile. So much for his pretence of being a Tory!

URR Closed by East Putney station

In both directions. White low loader apparently hit National Rail bridge and dislodged vehicle it was carrying. Tube OK.Blue low loader is recovery vehicle but heard TfL personal "that's not going under my tube bridge "!

Incident in Front of East Putney Tube Station

From what I’ve heard, a lorry was reversing/turning and accidentally hit one of the bridges over URR.  It is the rail bridge that you never see trains on.  URR closed in both directions close to the station, but the tube station is open and the tube is working. If this photo comes out clearly, you can see construction equipment has fallen off the back of the lorry onto the pavement.

Guttering

I seem to have lots of detritus in my guttering including no doubt some old bird nests and lots of moss. The 3rd floor gutters are very high so presumably need a specialist company with long ladders to come and empty/clear them. Is there a local company that can be recommended before the winter sets in?

Charlwood Rd dumping ground

I wonder how useful those mini recycle centres are on Charlwood Road just off URR. Often when I pass in the morning it seems vans have used them as an excuse to dump all manner of crap in the area around them. Sounds like it's a green light for fly tipping "I was just leaving it all near the collection boxes".
