Wandsworth Welcomes Refugees To Host Zoom Event
Panel of speakers to discuss idea of a sanctuary city

A Zoom event is to be hosted by Wandsworth Welcomes Refugees (WWR) later this month to discuss the issue of the treatment of refugees and asylum seekers who come to this country.
Creating Sanctuary in Wandsworth is open to all and takes place on 20 April from 7-9pm.
A panel of experts will discuss how sanctuaries can be built for people who make a perilous journey to the UK and can face poor living conditions, isolation and discrimination.
The organisers say the aim of the discussion will be to create unity in a time of divisive rhetoric.
Speakers include:
- Fleur Anderson - Member of Parliament for Putney and a founding member of WWR
- Councillor Kevin Bonavia - Lewisham Councillor and champion of theLewisham Borough of Sanctuary movement
- Maggie Filipova-Rivers - City of Sanctuary Regional Coordinator and Contact for London
- Kim Hackleman - Belgrade Theatre of Sanctuary, Coventry
- Julie Mckirdy - Thimblemill Library of Sanctuary, West Midlands
- Cheryl Andrews - Chair of WWR
