Wandsworth Council is calling on young people aged 7 to 17 who live or attend school in the borough to register their interest in representing Team Wandsworth at the 2027 London Youth Games, as Europe’s largest youth sports festival prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary year.
The invitation follows the close of the 2026 season, which saw Team Wandsworth enjoy another successful year of competition. Hundreds of young athletes took part in 25 events, competing against the capital’s best across a wide range of sports.
Among this year’s standout achievements were a bronze medal in netball, a top-five finish for the U15 girls’ football team, and an exceptional second-place result for the girls’ para-swimming squad. Wandsworth’s judo team also delivered a remarkable medal haul, securing two golds, four silvers and two bronzes.
These successes, the Council says, reflect not only the talent and commitment of the borough’s young athletes but also the dedication of coaches, volunteers, team managers, schools, clubs and families who support them throughout the season.
Cllr Ethan Brooks, Cabinet Member for Environment, praised the achievements and encouraged new athletes to step forward. “The London Youth Games continue to provide an incredible opportunity for young people to develop their skills, make new friends and represent their borough with pride. Our athletes demonstrated outstanding commitment, sportspersonship and determination throughout the season, achieving some fantastic results along the way. We are incredibly proud of everything Team Wandsworth has already accomplished and look forward to building on this success in the coming year – if you think you’ve got what it takes to represent Wandsworth, apply now!”
The council says that the London Youth Games play an important role in delivering the Wandsworth Moves Together strategy, which aims to make sports and physical activity accessible to everyone. The competition offers young people the chance to stay active, build confidence, learn new skills and experience the benefits of being part of a team.
The 2027 season will feature 37 events across 20 sports, including rowing, judo, wheelchair basketball, hockey, badminton, swimming and many more. Whether a young person already trains with a club or simply wants to try something new, the Games provide a welcoming pathway into competitive sport.
Young people aged 7–17 who live or attend school in Wandsworth can now register their interest in joining Team Wandsworth for the 2027 season. Registration is open on the Wandsworth Council website, where families can find details about trials, training opportunities and upcoming team announcements.
As the London Youth Games prepares to mark its 50th anniversary, Wandsworth hopes to build a team that reflects the borough’s energy, diversity and sporting ambition — and to give even more young people the chance to experience the excitement of representing their community on a London-wide stage.
