Nearly 800 firms in Wandsworth to receive Additional Restrictions Grant

A further £3.4m in financial support has been released for businesses in the borough of Wandsworth facing hardship as a result of the ongoing Covid-19 restrictions.

Nearly 800 local businesses will now receive an additional £4,500 each in Additional Restrictions Grant (ARG).

Businesses which have previously received an ARG award will receive the money automatically and do not need to claim it.

This latest top-up payment brings the total amount of financial support local businesses have received from the council since the pandemic struck to more than £150m.

Since March 2020 Wandsworth Council has awarded £79.8m in cash grants to local businesses along with an additional £69.2m in business rates relief.

Wandsworth’s cabinet member for economic development, skills and employment Cllr Rhodri Morgan said: “We know that businesses have been hit hard over the course of the pandemic and that the latest extension to the roadmap will have dashed their hopes of an early bounce back, so I’m glad we are able to offer this fresh wave of support to help them keep their heads above water until life begins to return to normal.”

And the council’s finance spokesman Cllr Kim Caddy added: “Since the beginning of lockdown we have responded swiftly and effectively to support our local businesses and help them survive these unparalleled challenges. I am delighted that we are able to offer another round of funding to continue this assistance.”

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.
