Charity Walk for Peace Kicks Off Borough Poppy Appeal

The Mayor of Wandsworth meets young Charity Walk for Peace volunteers

This Saturday (30 October) volunteers for Charity Walk for Peace (CWFP), which is associated with the Ahmadiyya Muslim Elders Association UK, were joined by the Mayor of Wandsworth, Richard Field, and Fleur Anderson MP in support of the Royal British Legion.

The volunteers assembled at Southfields underground station to launch Poppy Appeal 2021 in the borough.

Mr Ahmad Muhammad Ahsan, the Regional Coordinator for CWFP said, “Our message is simple – Love for All, Hatred for None!

“Having held charity walks since 1985, and raised over £6.2million – CWFP’s aim is to help relieve the suffering of the poor, and to promote peace, understanding and goodwill amongst people of all walks of life.”

CWFP will be signing the Armed Forces Covenant and celebrating 100-years of the Royal British Legion. The Armed Forces Covenant is a statement of the nation’s obligation to look after ex-serving personnel and their families which became enshrined in the Armed Forces Act in 2011. It guarantees that members of the Armed Forces community face no disadvantage as a result of their service, and that special consideration be given in certain circumstances, such as for those who have been injured or bereaved.

Mr Mahmood Ahmad, Chairman of Ahmadiyya Muslim Elders Association, the London Mosque Region, told the audience that last year, due to various restrictions the Association was not able to perform their normal activities of collecting funds, so their members went out and joined local homeless help centres; distributed food at food banks; collected litter; and helped the Royal Voluntary Service – however in 2019, as in previous years, they raised over £1million with over £500,000 just for the Poppy Appeal.

He added, “One of the notable distinctions of CWFP is that all donations collected are donated back to charities – not a single penny is deducted or administration costs – it is the Ahmadiyya Muslim Elders Association who cover all administration costs.”

The first charity walk by the group took place in 1985 under the guidance of community’s then Caliph, Hazrat Mira Tahir Ahmad when the community collected just a few pounds.

36 years on and the Ahmadiyya Muslim Elders have collected over one million pounds yearly whilst ensuring that whatever they collect is given back to charitable and deserving causes.

The founder of the community, Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, said, "The principle to which we adhere is that we have kindness at heart for the whole of mankind."

The motto Love for All, Hatred for None is a message which is shared in all the 210 countries where Ahmadiyya Muslim community plays an active part to help their fellow man.

Their beloved Caliph, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad says, “Our Jihad is not a Jihad of swords, guns or bombs. Our Jihad is not a Jihad of cruelty, brutality and injustice. Rather, our Jihad is of love, mercy and compassion. Our Jihad is of tolerance, justice and human sympathy. Our Jihad is to fulfil the rights of God Almighty and of His Creation.”
