The Wandsworth Park Eco Fair held last Saturday (11 May) has been hailed as a success by those in attendance.

The event, which was organised by the Friends of Wandsworth Park, was blessed with sunny weather with the result that crowds of local people came along to join a host of local and national environmental organisations, including Fleur Anderson MP’s Putney Environment Commission, the RSPB, Southfields Mend, Fix & Repair Café, Octagreen, Friends of the Earth Wandsworth, Friends of Wimbledon Park and the Putney Society.

Residents attending were treated to a variety of activities aimed at promoting environmental awareness and community engagement, as well as rides on Shetland ponies for children.

Throughout the day, attendees had the opportunity to join in with craft workshops for children and informative discussions on clean air advice. Visitors also had the chance to interact with wildlife experts and learn about sustainable practices, such as solar panel installation.

Live entertainment and talks were provided by Serena Smit, Fiddler and Isabel Losado, author of The Joyful Environmentalist.

Fleur Anderson MP said, "The sun was out for the first Wandsworth Park Eco Fair, and it was a huge success. The environment is one of my top priorities as a Member of Parliament and so to see the many thousands of people locally who care about the climate emergency is always a good reminder of how much we demand environmental progress.

“Thanks to Friends of Wandsworth Park and Enable for organizing, all the stall holders and schools and musicians and everyone who came. Lots of green actions inspired – please look out for upcoming Putney Environment Commission events, which I founded as a local forum for people to talk about how we can work together locally to protect and enhance our environment. Email me at fleur.anderson.mp@parliament.uk if you’d like to be added to our WhatsApp group,"

"By working collaboratively, we can make significant strides towards preserving and enhancing our natural spaces, taking active measures to improve the environmental impact of our homes and demand really positive steps forward for our communities.”

The Friends of Wandsworth Park are a local organisation dedicated to preserving, protecting, and improving the Grade II listed park and organise the Eco Fair as part of their ongoing efforts to engage with the community and raise funds for park maintenance.

The group works closely with Wandsworth Council, serving as a platform for discussions on the park's future and advocating for its continued conservation.
