Ignoring help phone number the people locked in broke the gates and drove off

On Monday (23rd March) four cars were locked in the car park at the Richardson Evans Memorial Playing Fields, after the official closing time and despite signs with contact numbers to be let out, they tried to take the gate off the hinges.

In doing so they bent the hinges out of shape rendering them unusable, and when that failed to work this website was advised they somehow managed to snap the padlock. This resulted in the car park being closed to visitors.

Following the Government’s statement on 23rd March asking people to restrict their movements, and in keeping with other open spaces such as Richmond Park and the National Trust, the Conservators too "the difficult decision" to close all the car parks on Wimbledon and Putney Commons from 7:00pm on Tuesday (24th March) 2020.

WPCC are currently in discussion with Merton Council and Parkside Hospital (which is now being used by the NHS) regarding parking for key workers.

The public toilets at the Windmill Car Park and REMPF pavilion will also be closed although the disabled toilet will still be accessible to those with a Radar key.

All golf play has now been suspended, but the course is being maintained and visitors are asked to "still be mindful of this and respect the work of the Greenkeepers".

To help entertain and educate the Conservators have added to their website a page of nature activities for all age groups.
