PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), the administrators of the Wilko chain, has announce a list of 52 locations where stores are set to close next week.

Branches at Acton and Putney will serve their last customer on 12 September and the Hammersmith store shuts on 14 September.

Overall 1,332 jobs will be lost as a result of the closures on top of nearly 300 other redundancies already announced at the company’s warehouses and support centre.

Other branches in west and south west London such as Fulham, West Ealing and Wimbledon are not on this list as well as 20 other stores across the capital.

Attempts continue to be made to find buyers for all or part of the discount chain but an number of potential purchasers have ruled themselves out. B&M Bargains has agreed to buy 51 locations in a £13million deal with the stores to be rebranded. No indication has been given that the list of stores announced as being closed are the ones that are to be acquired by B&M Bargains but the company has confirmed it will not be directly taking on staff in the stores they have bought.

Edward Williams, joint administrator at PwC, said, 'In the absence of viable offers for the whole business, very sadly store closures and redundancies of team members from those stores are now necessary. The loss of these stores will be felt not only by the team members who served them with such dedication, including through the uncertainty of recent weeks, but also the communities which they have been a part of.

'We are enormously grateful for the support of team members during this difficult period and remain committed to doing all we can to help affected staff, assisting them with processing redundancy claims and working with relevant parties to help secure new employment as quickly as possible.'

Before Wilko went into liquidation it employed 12,500 people in 400 stores across the country.
