South Western Railway is offering discounted 100,000 discounted tickets as part of this year’s Great British Rail sale. There are some journeys available at half price which means that you can travel from local stations to destinations such as Winchester, Portsmouth and Salisbury for as little as £9 or take a trip to the seaside at Bournemouth or Weymouth for £12.
The Great British Rail Sale starts Tuesday 14 January and continues until Monday 20 January, with customers able to claim up to 50% off selected Advance and Off-Peak rail tickets between Friday 17 January and Monday 31 March.
Full details can be found on this link.
More than two million tickets are available across the country as part of this government scheme.
The Department for Transport (DfT) says passengers saved about £5.8m during a similar promotion last year, where more than 600,000 tickets were sold, and that it had instructed rail companies to sell even more this year.
However, rail fares across the country are set to rise by an average of £4.6% on 2 March with most railcards increasing by £5.
Peter Williams, SWR’s Customer and Commercial Director said, “Once again, South Western Railway is delighted to be part of the Great British Rail Sale and to give our customers a chance to visit many of the outstanding destinations we serve, at a great discount.
“Whether it’s for a short break away or to visit family and friends, we look forward to welcoming customers old and new aboard our services as part of this great initiative.”
