Will Richmond Park Close To Through Traffic?

Royal Parks publishes findings on consultation on movement through all parks

Roehampton Gate

The Royal Parks charity has published the findings to its consultation on movement through all the parks it manages. Of those who responded to its first survey 68% supported the reduction of private motor vehicles using Richmond Park as a commuter route.

The findings from the consultation have been instrumental in forming a Movement Strategy document which outlines a vision for how park users can “access, experience and move through” its parks.

The beautifully designed document is more broadbrush than specific but does state that the charity has been looking at a variety of ways to reduce traffic through its parks, from introducing number plate recognition technology to completely closing park roads to through traffic.

Comments on the strategy are being invited by the Royal Parks via its website but the wording seems to indicate that the charity is looking for tweaks or refinements to its strategy rather than wholesale changes saying: “The document sets out seven strategic outcomes that will serve as an overarching guide to a variety of proposals and projects. We do not expect to radically change these outcomes. However, we would like to hear your views, particularly how we might improve on the outcomes before finalising the Movement Strategy.“

You can make your comment by emailing movement.strategy@royalparks.org.uk
If you do wish to comment you will need to email before March 25 after which time the consultation period closes.

The charity says the next stage of the process is a ‘Movement Strategy Implementation Plan that will detail projects and proposals over the next five years.”

The Bugle thinks this means that the charity is going to publish another document with more specific proposals at a yet-to-be-revealed date and that there is as yet no indication as to the timings of any of the changes that might be proposed.
