Black Sheep Coffee wants to open up a café in Putney High Street, in the building once occupied by the Il Gusto Italian restaurant.
Conilon Ltd, which uses Black Sheep Coffee as a trading name, has applied to Wandsworth Council for planning permission to replace the existing unit with a coffee shop.
It is also seeking permission for new signage at the now empty property at 157 Putney High Street, with all the work set for completion by September.
The site near the train station has had a number of incarnations over the years most recently as Il Gusto Italiano Restaurant,
The proposals include replacing the shopfront, refitting the interior with a new counter, self-service screen, customer seating and an accessible toilet on the ground floor.
Wandsworth council has consulted 30 neighbours about the proposal, which includes details of its plans to open from 6am-7.30pm on Mondays-Saturdays and 6.30am-7.30pm on Sundays.
It is seeking comments on the application until August 9, and you can make your views known by searching for application number 2023/2299 on the council’s planning explorer.
Stockwell-based Black Sheep Coffee was founded in 2013 by former student flatmates Gabriel Shohet and Eirik Holth and earlier this year was said to have more than 50 locations across the UK – most of them in London.

Operating under the tagline ‘leave the herd behind’, the business has made ridding the business of plastic a core pillar of its operations since its beginning.
Their takeaway coffee only comes in compostable cups, and every store also has a ‘coffee board’ where customers can write a positive message or pin a free coffee card for someone less fortunate to redeem.
Alongside coffee, the chain offers Norwegian waffles, bagels, toasties, and smoothie bowls, as well as a range of cakes, pastries, and light bites.
