Free Christmas Concert at St Mary's Church

Wandsworth Symphony Orchestra joins Hotham Primary School Choir

On Wednesday 11 December at 7pm the Wandsworth Symphony Orchestra will be joined by the Hotham School Choir at St Mary's Church on the High Street for a free seasonal sing along concert with the orchestra.

The choir will be made up of children who have chosen to participate from years 4-6, and will be led by the primary school’s music teacher Mrs Helen Bradshaw.

Musical treats will include a fun orchestral version of The Twelve Days of Christmas, and favourite carols such as Hark the Herald Angels Sing. The big favourite for all generations is often Leroy Anderson’s “Sleighride” – and there will be a singalong section of carols for the enthusiastic chorists!!

The children will sing a contemporary song called “This Winter’s Night” written recently by a young female composer named Emily Barden who writes a lot of popular children’s music. The children are also looking forward to singing a Motown song called “What Christmas Means to Me”.

Hotham School Choir

The Wandsworth Symphony Orchestra was founded under its present name in 1973, although it can trace its history back to a group which met at the Putney Literary Institute in 1918. Since 2014 the Musical Director and Conductor has been Leigh O’Hara, a distinguished pianist, percussionist and teacher. The leader is Mario Basilisco.

This free festive concert has been an annual event since the 1990s, and there is always a collection for the parish’s chosen charity. This year there will be a collection for Regenerate UK, a Putney based charity focused on youth services.

Come along to this rare opportunity to sing carols with a full orchestra!
