What’s On at Putney Library in October


Putney Verse Workshop, Black History Month and Code Ninjas

Activities and events continue to be reintroduced at Putney Library.

On Thursday 7 October from 5 – 7.30pm National Poetry Day will be celebrated with at Putney Verse Workshop. Bring along portable objects or pictures to inspire imaginative verse (conkers, crockery, garments, vegetables, paint brushes . . . )
Participants will spend up to twenty minutes creating poems, which will be recited to the other attendees.

Later in the month there are two events to mark Black History month. On 22 October from 3.45 – 4.45pm Kamapala Chukwuka, author of Mummy’s Love for you will always be and Ama’s Gift will be holding a storytelling and colouring session for ages 0-7.
Kamapala launched her first book at Putney Library.

On 28 October from 1.30 – 3.30pm Chinasa Uyanna author of Obi and his Curious Adventures will be holding a session to showcase some of the wonderful stories and cultural traditions of the Igbo tribe from South East Nigeria. There be an opportunity to create masks based on the
Igbo Masquerades. Age: 3 – 5.

Fun and flexible coding for children between the ages of 5 and 14 is offered by Code Ninjas and they are holding a Halloween Party on Saturday 30 October from 12-4pm with treats, gifts and a chance to have a go at coding.

Recycling sacks now available at Putney Library (while stocks last).Please only take one pack per household.

Putney Library have partnered with the BBC to help Kit Out The Nation! If you have any used sports clothing & kit that is clean and in good condition bring it down next time you visit.

The Friends of Putney Library aim to protect, enhance and promote the role of the library in the community. Since their launch in 2013, they have organised several talks each year by authors and other speakers on a wide range of subjects, both of local and wider interest.
