The PMC Singers
May 5, 2026
Putney is gearing up for a lively and generous weekend as churches, schools and community groups come together to raise funds for Christian Aid Week, with events running across two Saturdays and offering everything from music and homemade cakes to plant sales and even a charity car wash.
There will be a free Teatime Concert at Putney Methodist Church on Gwendolen Avenue (SW15 6SN) on Saturday 16 May at 3pm, where the PMC Singers and Friends will present an hour of uplifting vocal and instrumental music. This year’s dance‑themed programme promises waltzes, tangos and even a spirited Dashing White Sergeant, performed by a choir in excellent voice and supported by talented soloists. The concert is informal, family‑friendly and completely free, with donations invited for Christian Aid.
The church will also be open from 10am to 4.30pm for a café and cake sale, giving visitors the chance to enjoy refreshments before or after the performance while supporting the charity’s work.
But the musical afternoon is just one part of a much wider community effort.
Earlier in the week, St Margaret’s Church hosts its popular Plant Sale, Cake Sale and Seed Exchange on Saturday 9 May from 10.30am to 1pm on Putney Park Lane (SW15 5HU). A second session follows on Saturday 16 May, 10am–noon, at 17 Rodway Road (SW15 5DN). Both events offer plants, seedlings, homemade cakes and a chance to donate directly to Christian Aid’s appeal.
On the morning of the concert itself, All Saints’ School and Church will be running a Charity Car Wash from 10am to noon on Saturday 16 May at All Saints’ School, Putney Common (SW15 1HL). Drivers can have their car washed while enjoying a free breakfast bap, alongside stalls selling coffee, cakes, lemonade and candles — all in aid of Christian Aid.
