Wimbledon and Putney Commons are on our doorstep, but how much do you know about their history, and how they are managed today?

Come along to Putney Library on Wednesday 20 November,
6.30 – 7.30 pm, to hear Simon Lee, Chief Executive of Wimbledon and Putney Commons, tell us about managing our amazing local resource, important both for wildlife and for recreation. Challenged by our changing climate, spread of new disease and pressures of use, how are the Commons surviving? How can we best plan for the future?

Wimbledon and Putney Commons consist of 1140 acres of open space. They are made up of four areas: Wimbledon Common, Putney Heath, Putney Lower Common and the Richardson Evans Memorial Playing Fields. They are protected by the Wimbledon and Putney Commons Act of 1871.

Since 2014, Simon Lee has been the Chief Executive, responsible for the day-to-day management of the Commons. Whether you are a birder, butterfly or moth enthusiast, amateur mycologist, botanist or a keen walker, the Commons are there for you and many residents contribute to their upkeep through the Commons Levy. With the recent exciting news that the Wimbledon and Putney Commons Conservators have secured a £126,100 National Lottery grant, what does this mean for the future management of the Commons and local users?

All welcome, but reservations appreciated, by phone to 020 8780 3085 or email Charlene.coleman@gll.org

Refreshments available from 6.00 pm
This is a free event so donations to Friends of Putney Library welcome.
