Barnes Community Association’s (BCA) popular Barnes Fair returns on Saturday 11 July, running from 9.30am to 5.30pm. What is believed to be South West London’s largest community event, the Fair draws thousands for a day that blends village-green tradition with a bustling marketplace, live entertainment and family-friendly fun. Admission, as always, is free.

More than 300 stalls will fill the Green, the result of months of careful curation by the BCA team. The mix is part of the Fair’s enduring charm: independent makers, local businesses, artisans, charities and community groups all gathered in one place, offering everything from handmade gifts and jewellery to homeware, fashion and unique one-off finds. It’s the kind of browsing that rewards slow wandering and chance discoveries.

Food and drink are central to the day’s atmosphere, and this year brings a particularly strong line-up. Two much-loved local pubs, The Brown Dog and The Crossing, join forces by the Bandstand, while the Church Road food area returns with &Feast, The Ginger Pig and their resident DJ. Newcomer Home SW13 makes its debut, and A Craver’s Box brings vibrant Indian flavours. For something more unusual, Golden Tours’ tea bus offers a moving afternoon-tea experience with a view of the Fair from atop a classic Routemaster.

Live music runs throughout the day, showcasing local bands and choirs, and families will find plenty to keep children happily occupied. Punch & Judy, dance and karate displays, a vintage funfair complete with steam-powered Gallopers, a helter skelter and swingboats all return, alongside the ever-popular chance to explore a real fire engine. The BCA’s Pimm’s tent remains a summer staple.

Visitors can also stop by the BCA stall to learn more about membership, volunteering and the Association’s year-round work. New Barnes merchandise will be on sale, and a raffle offers prizes including an overnight stay at The Bridge on Castelnau and afternoon tea at Petersham Nurseries.

Every pound raised helps support the BCA’s community projects, events and initiatives.
