Robert Bridge to Perform Pictures at an Exhibition

This Sunday (18 February) Robert Bridge will be giving a performance of Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition at All Saints' Church, Putney Common.
It is part of the church’s Tunes@Noon concert series and therefore, not surprisingly, begins at noon lasting around 40 minutes.
Robert says, “I'm sneaking in a little bit of Bach as a warm-up and might play a cheeky encore if I've got any fingers left and there's anybody left to listen.”
Tunes@Noon is a series of monthly community recitals held on Sundays. There is no charge for entry but there will be a retiring collection with donations going towards the upkeep of the church and its music.
Mussorgsky (1839-1881) wrote Pictures at an Exhibition in 1874 and so marks its 150th anniversary as does All Saints’ Church this year.
The composer was inspired to write the work following the death (at the age of only 39) of his close friend the artist Viktor Hartmann who had put on an exhibition the previous year.
The structure takes on the form of a gallery tour around Hartmann’s works, with each movement depicting a specific painting (some of which are now lost).
Between each painting is the ‘promenade’ theme which stitches the piece together musically and suggests the walk around the gallery.
Robert Bridge studied in London and Germany and made his debut at the Purcell Room for the Park Lane Group, followed by two solo appearances at the BBC Proms. He has recorded and
broadcast live for Radio 3 as a solo pianist and chamber musician and has played at the major London venues as well as across the UK and Europe. He has accompanied masterclasses at Aldeburgh and given regular concerto performances with orchestras in London and Hampshire. For the last 15 years he has organised an annual series of Knitting Concerts in Putney,
