Tudor Putney with Dorian Gerhild

A break from coronavirus as local historian takes you back to life in the 1490s

Building known as Cromwell House that was on Putney Bridge Road

An account of Putney in early-Tudor times forms the main feature in the latest Wandsworth Historian. In it the local history writer Dorian Gerhold brings wonderfully to life the substance of a 1490s record of land holding in the area. And then there are articles reflecting on the Victorian worthy Alfred Dryden and his battles in later life with various Putney civic authorities, and the still-remembered experience of the bombing of the Cinderella Dancing Club on Putney High Street in 1943.

An unspeakably wicked murder linked to 1920s Battersea that even now makes the blood run cold, and the end of Wandsworth’s trolley-buses in 1960 are only two of the other articles appearing in this highly praised magazine.
