Residents around Putney Embankment are being warned of possible disturbance and delays due to planned work relating to the Thames Tideway tunnel.

The work is to be carried out to install service ducts to accommodate power and communication cables along the Lower Richmond Road and Putney Embankment.

Thames Tideway have recently had to revise the schedule of work from what was originally notified to residents before Christmas.

The project is divided into four phases, confusingly with Phase 4, marked in yellow on the map above, already having begun in front of the Thai Square restaurant.

As one lane will be closed around the entrance of Putney Embankment, traffic management will be in place for each phase to divert pedestrians and vehicles safely around the construction area. The traffic management installation will take place between 18:00 to 06:00 on Sunday 17 January in readiness for Phase 3 (red area).

Phase 3 is scheduled to start on Monday 18 January and finish on Friday 22 January. The works will involve installing service ducts that will support power and communication cables for the site. To do this, the site team will be using equipment to partially dig up the road. Thames Tideway says that noise levels will be monitored at all times.

The dates for Phase 1 and 2, the blue shaded area, are still to be confirmed. During this time The Putney Pier bus stop, (bus stop Q), that runs eastbound towards Putney Bridge and Putney High Street will be temporarily closed and will be relocated on Lower Richmond Road adjacent
to the Star & Garter Mansions.

Thames Tideway says the work is being carried out in four phases to minimise disruption to pedestrians and the Transport for London (TfL) bus routes.

Once the works have been completed the footpath and road surfaces will be reinstated.

A spokesperson for Thames Tideway said, “We know that many people are at home at the moment and that this work could cause a disturbance. We apologise in advance and we will do as much as we can to limit noise impacts.”
