Struggling With Self Isolation?

St Margaret's Church Putney has nearly 90 volunteers to give you a hand

We are offering help to anyone in Putney who are self-isolating due to a health condition, due to Covid 19 or because of their age. We can get your shopping, we can pick up your prescription. At the moment we have almost 90 volunteers who have mainly been doing deliveries of shopping and medicines. We also distribute a lot of free food as well as a whole assortment of odd things like coat hangers, wall plugs, potato masher, screws etc., whatever we are asked for, we try to find, usually by donations. We had a crowdfunding page to help us raise money to enable us to help anyone who is struggling and we raised just over £4,000.

Our volunteers are contacted by our Vicar by email, but anyone needing help should call the Vicar on his mobile 07771 548254. Usually people are receiving their grocery requests within 3 to 4 hours. Most of our tasks are volunteered within minutes of posting them. We have been contacted by Wandsworth Council asking us to help local residents, Age UK, GPs, and pharmacies. Last week we received enough fresh food for 3 small households, an hour later someone was referred to the Vicar who lived alone and has total blindness. The food they had been sent was all cans – because they’re imperishable, but they couldn’t tell what any of them were. He immediately gave some of the fresh food we had received and this was more recognisable.

We have received quite a lot of calls from concerned children over parents, aunts, grandparents. We’ve not said no to anyone yet. Calls have been steadily increasing and I’m seeing more need from highly vulnerable people. We may need to support some people on a long term basis.

Please get in touch if you need any help. Vicar@stmargaretsputney.org or call 07771 548254, you can also contact the church office office@stmargaretsputney.org or call 0208 789 5932 (open Monday to Thursday).
