To mark National Volunteers’ Week, (1-7 June) the RSPCA is paying special tribute to Mo Dingle who passed away aged 75 in this March.
Athlone native Mo died on St Patrick’s Day after helping out at the Putney Animal Hospital for over 30 years. She then volunteered at RSPCA Wimbledon’s rehoming centre since it opened in 2018
Staff and volunteers at the RSPCA Wimbledon, Wandsworth & Sutton District branch wanted to recognise Mo’s commitment to animal welfare during the many years she volunteered at the RSPCA.
Laura Kennedy, branch manager, said, “Mo would sit quietly with the cats and was always the first to offer to do the jobs that no one else wanted to do. She was a quiet and caring lady, with a lovely Irish accent and a big heart and she was always ready to help.
“She was so gentle and kind-hearted and we will always remember her sitting and gently singing to the cats.
“We wanted to recognise her contribution to animal welfare and share our memories of this amazing lady.”

Cora was one of the many cats who Mo helped to bring out of their shell. Cora was rescued from a feral colony in late 2019 and Mo was very keen to offer a soothing hand and was not fazed by Cora’s medical condition called Tenesmus which meant she couldn’t control her bowel. Mo went into the pod with Cora who immediately sensed a good person in Mo and it wasn't long before she was sitting on her lap, purring contentedly, both thoroughly enjoying each other's company.
Laura added, “Everyone who worked with Mo says she was such a delightful and helpful lady who always had a smile for you that just made the day better.
“She was happy and kind and always saw the best in people. She loved being part of the RSPCA family and we hope she is now resting in peace.”
