Wandsworth Council is warning of potential extra traffic congestion in central Putney due to work taking place on traffic lights and the widening of cycle lanes.

Temporary signals were put in place at the junction of the High Street and Putney Bridge Road and are expected to be in place for four weeks.

These signal works are being carried out by Transport for London with further changes to signals planned this summer at the junction of Putney Bridge and the Lower Richmond Road. These are designed to smooth traffic flows, reduce tailbacks, improve cycle facilities and offer safer crossings for pedestrians.

Work is also taking place between this junction and Felsham Road on the cycle lane.

The council is advising motorists and bus users to plan extra time for their journeys.

Following the traffic signal changes, pavements in this part of the high street are set to be renewed along with other works scheduled for later in the summer.

The council says, once implemented the measures should help to reduce tailbacks and congestion in the high street and in its feeder routes like Putney Bridge Road and the Lower Richmond Road.
