Roehampton Residents Plan Protest Against Loss of Green Space

Green space around Toland Square could be lost due to development

A group of Roehampton residents plan to hold a protest this weekend against what they believe is the over-development of the area.
They fear plans to build three new blocks in the area as part of a programme of constructing over 1,000 flats in the borough will deprive them of remaining green space and natural light.
If the new blocks get approval then there are even more schemes in the pipeline including at The Ashburton Estate.
A petition has been started on the Eastwood South Estate which so far has collected 136 from 125 households with the overwhelming majority objecting to building plans.
This has been presented to the Council and to follow up a protest is planned on Saturday 8 July at 11 am, Toland Square, Eastwood South. Other local estate residents will be in attendance including those from the Ashburton, The Lennox estate and the Alton
A statement on behalf of the residents of Toland Square, Eastwood South says, “We understand the need for housing in London, but to create overcrowding on Council Estates is not the answer!
“Please don’t squeeze more people onto our small estate and take away our small amount of green space and beloved trees. We will be also be affected by loss of sunlight and overlooking issues. “
