Falcons Girls Teacher Receives Prestigious Award

Mrs Dunning at the Putney Prep School received the Alpha Plus Group Innovation Award

A teacher from Falcons Preparatory School for Girls has been highly-commended with the prestigious Alpha Plus Group Innovation Award for Teaching and Educational Resources 2019.

Mrs Dunning, English Lead at the Putney-based school, has been awarded the much-coveted accolade for her work in forming and supporting the school’s Eco-committee.

The award recognises the introduction of the committee, also known as the ‘Eco Warriors’, alongside the subsequent initiatives, that Mrs Dunning and the team of pupils have put into place to ensure that the school is being considerate of the environment. Key initiatives introduced include; old battery collection boxes, litter picks in the local community, taking part in the Thames 21 Big Clean, planting flowers to encourage bees, and pupils encouraging staff members to turn off lights.

Headmistress at Falcons School for Girls, Sara Williams-Ryan commented: “This exceptional award is testament to Mrs Dunning’s determination and commitment to provide our school community with this invaluable educational resource, enabling our pupils to work together to develop knowledge and environmental awareness. We are delighted that she has been recognised for her work.”

“I would like to extend my congratulations and thanks to not only Mrs Dunning, but also the team of Eco Warriors for the work they do to make us all more aware about such an important matter.”

The next step in the Eco-committee’s plan is to become a Green Flag school, an internationally recognised award for excellence in environmental action and learning.

Enjoying a convenient location within the leafy conservation area of Woodborough Road, Putney, with spacious green play areas, specialist facilities and dedicated teachers, Falcons School for Girls will inspire and challenge children to foster a curiosity and interest in the world around them and to develop a love of learning.

Reaching far beyond the national curriculum, Falcons Girls strive to strengthen and enhance the pupils’ learning pathways through carefully planned lessons and activities, supported by a rich co-curricular programme. The school also works closely with parents during the education process and each pupil is prepared for entry into the senior school which best meets their learning needs and future development.
