A fundraiser organised by the Friends of St Mary's School has smashed its target and raised over £18,000 for a new playground.

This Friday (9 February) pupils joined forces with teachers and parents to sprint cycle the equivalent of Base Camp to the top of Mount Everest and back in a single day in the school hall. They were joined by Reverend John Whitaker of Putney Parish.

The initial target was £5,000 but that was quickly reached so it was increased to £7,000. However, a week before the event, that too had been scaled and contributions continued to pour in with Gift Aid donations set to make the final total even higher.

The money is being raised to continue the transformation of the school playground by completing Phase 2 of the project this summer. This includes installing an eco-classroom and an outdoor learning space which will benefit all pupils at St Mary's.

They have teamed up with Rollapaluza to run this event, with pupils, parents and teachers sprinting in pairs on custom built roller rigs throughout the day.

It is not too late to sponsor the cycling team which you can do by clicking on this link.
