A person has died after being hit by a train on the tracks between Putney and Barnes station.

British Transport Police say they were called at 10.20am this Monday (6 July) to Barnes railway station following a report of a casualty on the tracks. Officers attended but a person was pronounced dead at the scene

Traffic was diverted in West Putney as police closed off Dryburgh Road to get access to the railway tracks. A significant number of emergency service vehicles were at the scene.

South West Trains said that trains running between Clapham Junction and Barnes may be cancelled and delays were to be expected until 3pm. Power to the tracks needed to be switched off to allow emergency services access.

The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
