Another Collision Takes Place Near East Putney Station

A man was taken to hospital after being struck by a van near East Putney station on 29 January, prompting the closure of Upper Richmond Road during the morning rush hour and renewed calls for safety improvements at the busy junction.
Emergency services were called at around 7.10am to the junction of Upper Richmond Road and Carlton Drive, close to the station entrance. Police, paramedics and London’s Air Ambulance attended the scene. The pedestrian was treated at the roadside before being taken to hospital. His condition has not been confirmed but London Ambulance Service says he was taken to a major trauma centre
The collision led to the temporary closure of the A205 in both directions, causing significant delays on the South Circular and forcing buses, including the 37 and 337, to divert for several hours while officers carried out enquiries.
Putney MP Fleur Anderson said she was “very concerned” to hear about the incident and wished the injured person a full recovery. She thanked emergency services for their swift response and urged residents to allow extra time for their journeys while disruption continued.
She added that the incident occurred shortly after she had met Transport for London to discuss road safety around East Putney station and other local danger spots. “I will continue to demand stronger speed reduction measures along Upper Richmond Road,” she said, adding that many residents had raised concerns about the junction.
The location has been the site of previous serious collisions, and local campaigners have long argued that the crossing outside the station needs redesigning to improve visibility and reduce vehicle speeds.
Police enquiries into the circumstances of the collision are ongoing.
