Upper Richmond Road was close for a time on Monday afternoon (21 October) after a lorry struck the railway bridge near East Putney Station.

The council issued a warning for motorists to avoid the area after the flatbed truck carrying a digger was involved in a collision shortly before 12:11pm. This left the excavator on its side on the pavement near the junction with Keswick Road.

It is not clear at this stage if the driver misjudged the height restriction at the bridge. There have been no reports of any injuries and London Underground services were not affected by the strike.

Firefighters from Wandsworth station attended the incident as well as the police. The Fire Brigade left after about half an hour and the road is reported to have been reopened later in the afternoon.
