Builders on their bike.

Must be nearly every builders company putting a video on facebook of them on a bike carrying scaffolding, cement mixer, bricks, scaffold boards, etc etc etc. Taking the micky out of the woman expecting builders to use a bike. So everything gets pinched outside. Or it's all carried into the customer's house. Made me really laugh all the different companies making a  video. Even a builder with a great long ladder going round a corner and falling off his bike

Boycott bikes for builders. Vans vans vans everyday. Snow, wind, rain, don't get on your bike. Bad enough children being dangerously taken on bikes in a carriage, they are the first ones to be hit.

Exactly Ivonne, the builders are really making a joke of it, trying to prove how stupid it is. Bikes instead of Ambulances pulling you along behind, saying fresh air is good for you. All the materials builders use would be wet, what about carpets being delivered or wood flooring. They are making such a joke about it. Really showed the labour lady out as stupid, serves her right. Obviously used to tuk-tuk.

They will be telling all neighbours in an event of fire at a neighbouring house have your hosepipes at the ready. Oh there's a hose pipe ban. How can you take garden slabs on a bike, cement mixer. Good luck with the cherry picker.

Who is "they"?Btw haven't you noticed how so many things are on hire or on loan nowadays?  That means you don't have to own and house so much equipment nowadays and you can have it delivered. There are even Libraries of Things where you can find smaller pieces of equipment from - like sewing machines, pieces of garden equipment, drills, pressure washers and so much more to borrow or hire for a small fee so you don't have to buy and own something you may only use once or twice.  This also gives you the opportunity to try things out to see if you really want to buy and own something.  So much stuff available to buy much of which may not be up to the job!  Have a look online!Having said that it doesn't mean that Laurel & Hardy type cartoons aren't funny!

Back in 1958 I was a plumbers MATE in Barns, that was my job - to take the ladder on my bike.

How strange couldn't use putney forum for about 2 hours wouldn't let me in. Anyway yes Patrick years ago window cleaners etc used bikes. But rather difficult these days would be dreadful actually trying to carry a cement mixer on your shoulders, or scaffolding. You would need to be a muscle man or you would end up in later life a crippled.

So, in 1958, as a plumber's mate, you only needed a ladder and nothing else.  The plumber took absolutely nothing other than a tube of plumbers mate and another of poxipol? Hopefully, the plumber employing you rode a bicycle as well as not tools were required, meaning no spanners, pliers, hammers, brackets, plungers among others.

Hi Patrick  thinking back you actually didn't have many cars in Barnes in the 50's anyway, you had the bread man, milkman, dustmen, man on a bike to turn the lights on in the road. Also properties might have been built alot better in those days than now. My older cousin had a car, took us to Brighton with his 3 children. Then in the 60's there were more vehicles. But now there are loads of vans and with Covid, a lot of people didn't want to go out and had their food delivered.

Not everybody needs to have a lorry or van or car now because so much can be delivered when and where it is needed.  In fact much is hired for only the time when it is needed on site.Scaffolding seems to be a bit of an exception because scaffolding companies often 'store' their scaffolding up around a house so they can move it straight to another house rather than elsewhere in the meantime.

Very clever philippa. What's it delivered in a van. No scaffolders have a yard to keep their scaffolding and an office. Why do you come out with so much crap, do you even know how much it costs to have scaffolders put scaffolding up back and front of a house.

No a lorry - and you often find that they park on pavements blocking and cracking them - which is highly antisocial but it is just there for a short time.  Scaffolders can be very quick putting scaffolding up!  Maybe you should ask a few more builders about it.

Philippa. I do not need to ask a builder. I'm with one, his brother in law had a scaffolding company. His brothers are all builders. So get on your bike.
