Reform: do what I say, not what I do

15 June: Sarah Pochin, Reform MP for Runcorn and Helsby, writes to the housing minister raising concerns about the impact of second homes on rural communities.17 June: Sarah Pochin, Reform MP for Runcorn and Helsby, buys a Grade II listed second home in a rural area on Anglesey.The Office for National Statistics records that, among local authorities from 2011 to 2021, Anglesey had the largest increase in holiday home users.And there you have Reform in a nutshell.

Desperate stuff, Robert. The independent ethics adviser Sir Laurie Magnus found she acted with integrity but breached the ministerial code by failing to seek specialist tax advice, and HMRC concluded on 14 May 2026 that she did not act deliberately or carelessly and faced no penalties or charges of tax avoidance. That is, she made a simple mistake and rectified it.Did Pochin make a simple mistake, did she forget that she railed against second homes in rural areas one day and 2 days later go ahead and buy one? No, like too many Reform MPs, she's a bloody hypocrite.

Mr CarterAs usual you are too thick and angry to see the point of an argument or you deliberately obfuscate.Forget Raynor's memory loss over stamp duty, after all Government Ministers are soooo busy serving the people to worry about such trivia or call in and pay an expert in the field.The point is she has also banged on and on over the iniquity of second home ownership whilst herself being a second (or was it a third) one herself.I believe she is now saying that if someone owns a property, second home or not, and does not live in it or let it then the Government will confiscate it.Very Soviet.Hope you are not in any risk of this in West Putney.'Did Pochin make a simple mistake, did she forget that she railed against second homes in rural areas one day and 2 days later go ahead and buy one? Mr Carter'And your point is....?'Might I suggest it could be that Labour MPs are just as much on the make as those in any other Party.And am I right in understanding that MPs get payment of some kind to support a house in their constituency and accommodation for work at Westminster ?What's wrong with them staying at a Travel Lodge - home or away ?

Gobby aka Rayner is the biggest hypocrite of all. She was very vocal in condemning the Tories Right-To-Buy scheme despite buying her former council house in 2007, and later selling it for a considerable profit.  She also owns a house in her constituency Ashton-Under-Lyne. Her other property is the £700,000 luxury apartment in Hove which she apparently purchased with her disabled son’s NHS compensation cash.  She may have put this property into a trust for tax or IHT purposes.  Finally she has been given a grace-and-favour ministerial appartment in Westminster for use when she’s in London.

Not really, Michael. Richard highlighted an example of hypocrisy by a Reform MP in order to suggest that the party as a whole is tainted with hypocrisy. The other contributors have merely pointed out that other parties have hypocrites among their MPs.
