As suggested by the article on the front page if you are worried about this or other matters you should register with Metengage to let the Met know and to find out and get to know who your local Safer Neighbourhood Team are.Too many ebike riders don't seem to have any knowledge of the Highway Code which has information and rules for ALL of us including pedestrians and horse-riders which is something that all drivers have to know to pass a test.  If there is an incident your knowledge of these road rules will be taken into account.  The Highway Code can be found online as well as borrowed from libraries.

What struck me about this story is the high percentage of bikes that turned out to be illegal. This could mean one of two things - that the police can easily tell which are likely to be dodgy or, it isn't immediately apparent and a remarkably high proportion - 60% plus - have been tampered with.

There doesn't appear to be any restriction of what can be sold in shops although there is no need for anyone to pass a test to use these.I've seen a little notice with the scooters being sold in a well known shop saying that they are not legal to be ridden anywhere and everywhere (I wish I'd taken a photo to get the exact wording) but there are much larger warnings on many other items for sale nowadays but not seen any of these ebikes for sale in a shop...  However that isn't the greatest marketplace nowadays...  I can also imagine that being able to earn more by getting anywhere quicker and/or completing more deliveries is very tempting especially when the pay isn't that great.  There obviously should be proficiency and Highway Code testing.
