Pedestrians or Cyclists - Who has Right of Way?

My husband and I were walking at Putney Wharf, the stretch of path along the riverside from the church to Deodar Rd and were surprised at the amount of cyclists along here. We were walking side by side, a cyclist came up behind us and rang his bell for us to move aside.  We didn’t and he overtook us on my husband’s side. Who has right of way along here, pedestrians or cyclists?

I think, if you read the latest, Highway Code,  pedestrians have priority over cyclists,  unless signs indicate otherwise. He might have just been warning you he was there? That might have been an appropriate use?

Richard, thanks for reply.  
We hadn’t walked along here for a long time and I remember it as a pedestrian path with few cycles.  However there were lots of cycles, and we had moved out of the way already for several.  We were just a couple of pedestrians enjoying a stroll along the riverside, but really how many times do we have to move.  Is it a cycle path or a pavement? I have written this post on the Forum as, yet again, the fed up pedestrian.

As long as there are no signs there (No Cycling would make it perfectly clear), I would assume it was a shared path with pedestrian priority. In that case, since he rang his bell, wouldn't it have been easier to make room for him to get past?
