Trump’s great success in Iran
You have to hand it to Trump: one of the aims of his war on Iran was to effect regime change, and in that he’s certainly succeeded. The only problem is that the new regime is, if possible, even worse than the previous one. And what’s more, a report in the New York Times says that, although the previous ayatollah had sworn off developing a nuclear weapon, US intelligence has found that his son, Mojtaba Khamenei, has ambitions to develop advanced nuclear weaponry (https://www.nytimes.com/2026/07/24/us/politics/iran-nuclear-weapon.html). Now, dreadful as this terrible regime is – killing thousands of its own citizens for demonstrating against it, imprisoning and even executing citizens on the most trivial of charges – there is a certain logic to developing nuclear weapons. Terrifying in the appalling vistas it opens up, there is nevertheless, looking at it solely from the regime’s perspective, a certain perverted logic in this change: after all, it’s worked for North Korea. It gives yet another illustration of the crass decision to launch this foolish war and, in general, of Trump’s unfitness to occupy the White House.
