New Gambling Venue

The decision to licence a new gambling venue on Putney High Street is another example of the views of residents not being listened to. In spite of a plethora of objections including from our MP and ex prison chaplain Elizabeth Bridge who pointed out that vulnerable people could be affected by this venue operating. It is also out of keeping with Putney High Street - residents want useful and appropriate venues in which to do their shopping - this is neither.

Would it be wrong to assume that high vacancy rates on the High Street led the council to adopt a lax local plan for the area?

"The council’s licensing committee said that while there had been a high number of objections to the application, the “threshold for a refusal had not been met” and its own policy did not contain restrictions based on a clustering of similar venues nearby. "

More dumbing down of our High Street.  Do you know the reason(s) given to grant this licence?  I assume it listed the benefits because I can’t think of any?
