I suppose if you put yourself up as the chap who likes a pint and fag down the local with your mates but are then accepting millions of pounds as gifts while hobnobbing with minor aristocracy, convicted fraudsters, expat crypto kings, etc while building a property portfolio from mystery funding then people will start asking questions. As they say, just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you. And if you put sufficient targets out there they might just hit the bullseye on one of them. These days transparency is important in politics (as Johnson, Starmer et al have discovered). Listening to one commentator, the wise thing is to discuss any large financial or benefits in kind gifts with the standards committee to agree whether they need to be reported or not if they were in the 12 month period before becoming an MP. Perhaps, knowing everyone would be out to get him, Mr Farage has been very, very unwise not to be more open about his financial affairs? Something anyone going into politics and public life these days has to expect. Don't like that?
