Not about national politics

I cannot help feeling that council elections need to be about local issues not national politics. Perhaps all councillors need to be independents and their manifestos only relevant to the ward they wish to represent.

Thank you for your post Amanda.I wholeheartedly agree that council elections should be about local issues only.  Sadly, somehow, national politics do creep up.  Perhpas we should put our foot down and demand local issues only, including (if not particularly) from the media.  I like the idea of independent councillors.

You are absolutely right it is really disappointing that there aren't more Councils which are run by Independent Councillors instead of the national political parties.Flatpack Frome was in the news years ago.  There are apparently more Independents now than there used to be in lots of Councils.https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2015/may/22/flatpack-democracy-peoples-republic-of-fromehttps://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000jf7s
